UN Secretary-General: Climate Change Spares No One
10 October 2008: In a message for UN Day, to be observed on 24 October 2008, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon underlined that the global threats of the 21st century, including climate change and the spread of disease and deadly weapons, “spare no one.”
He stressed the need to “secure global public goods” in order to “advance the global common good.” Referring to the unprecedented commitment in pledges and partnerships to help the world’s poor that was generated during the high-level Millennium Development Goals event in September, as well as the advances on malaria, Ban called for these models to be replicated to tackle other challenges such as climate change.
